Ear surgery, also called “ear pinnning” or otoplasty, can restore a more normal appearance to protruding or overlarge ears. Dr. Reedy often performs ear surgery on children after the age of 5, when the ears reach full size. Otoplasty for children is usually performed under general anesthesia, administered by a qualified anesthesia provider. Dr. Reedy takes great care to conceal any necessary incisions on the back of the ear or within the fold at the front of the ear. During the procedure, he places internal, permanent sutures to give the cartilage its new shape. While most of Dr. Reedy’s otoplasty patients are children, ear surgery can also help adults refine their ear shape and size.
