Nose Surgery for Men in Wyomissing

Nose reshaping can redefine your facial appearance

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose reshaping surgery, has long been one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures for men. Rhinoplasty surgery can be used to reduce the size of the nose, change the shape of the bridge, reshape the nostrils, or adjust the tip of the nose. It can also be used to correct asymmetry caused by sports injuries or change the angle between your nose and upper lip. In sum, it is a versatile procedure and your doctor will listen to your concerns, then recommend what changes will best suit you while retaining (or improving) your masculine appearance.

Provided you’re physically healthy, realistic in your expectations, and choose an experienced surgeon, male rhinoplasty surgery is a safe procedure with high patient satisfaction. Our plastic surgeons often perform rhinoplasty to meet aesthetic goals, to reconstruct the nose after injury, or to correct birth defects or breathing problems.

Before, during, and after the procedure, everyone took great care of me.

Before you decide to go ahead, and before your surgeon can agree that you should, you need to understand (1) what will be done, (2) what you can expect during post-surgery recovery, and (3) the risks that come with this or any similar elective surgery.

What to expect from rhinoplasty surgery

Depending on the goals of your surgery, your surgeon will perform one of several classic variations on rhinoplasty. You and your surgeon will discuss and determine procedure specifics ahead of surgery, during consultation. If there are other procedures you want to enhance the balance of your features, this will be part of your planning. To help you prepare for the surgery and your recovery, we will also instruct you about physical activity, medication, drinking, smoking, and washing your face.

Before surgery, you’ll be anesthetized for your comfort to a level that is appropriate for your surgical plan. At Berks, for your safety, we only work with a qualified anesthesia provider who is a doctor of medicine. The surgery itself typically takes several hours. Afterwards, your nose will be secured and splinted. You should plan on taking about two days of complete rest before becoming mildly active again, and about a week before returning to work. You will need about three weeks for initial recovery.

Rhinoplasty recovery

You may need someone to help you during the first few days of your recovery, since movement is discouraged. Activities that could result in injury should be completely avoided for six weeks (swimming, playing sports, and so on). Sexual activity, which can increase your blood pressure, should be avoided for about two weeks. You also must take care in washing your face. Eyeglasses are not to be worn when the splint is off until you are given the OK by your doctor, who will be checking on the progress of your healing in regular follow-up visits. The healing process (and optimal results) depends very much on you. It is critical to follow all instructions that we provide, as they will keep you safe and help ensure your nose heals attractively.

Risks and Complications

There are risks and possible complications associated with any surgery. Specific to rhinoplasty, a dull headache, numbness, sinusitis, or an aching of the nose can occur after surgery and during initial recovery. If you fail to follow post-surgical recovery rules and/or healing does not proceed as expected, secondary surgery can become necessary. Rarely, infection (pain, redness, swelling), loss of smell, or toxic shock syndrome can occur.

Our surgeons take great care to evaluate each patient individually. They will advise you of your own unique risk profile, and enable you to compare it with that of rhinoplasty candidates in general, before it’s determined whether you’re a good candidate for the procedure.
