Liposuction for Men in Reading

Don’t let excess fat hide your hard work

Even if you do everything right, areas of excess fat can be difficult to tone—and they can detract from an otherwise fit physique. Despite spending hours in the gym and cleaning up your diet, sometimes that spare tire, double chin, or love handles just won’t go away. The truth is, even the healthiest eating habits or most disciplined exercise program cannot always conquer stubborn areas of excess fat, particularly if you are genetically predisposed to store fat in certain areas.

For men who want to reduce these fat deposits, liposuction may be the answer. Liposuction safely and effectively removes unwanted fat from specific areas of the body, face, or neck. It consistently ranks as the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure among men, with over 40,000 procedures performed last year alone in the US.

Is liposuction right for you?

Liposuction can flatten the abdomen, trim the oblique area, or reduce a double chin. Results are seen almost immediately and will continue to improve as post-operative swelling subsides. Men aged 20 to 35 who have good skin tone and with isolated collections of fat experience the best results from liposuction.

Common areas for liposuction in men include:

  • Chin and neck
  • Upper arms
  • Chest
  • Back
  • Abdomen and waist

Before our surgeons agree that liposuction is a good option for you, it’s important you understand the procedure, what to expect during recovery, any associated risks, and what you can reasonably expect of your results. Liposuction is not a weight loss solution, and you will get optimal results if you are at or near your ideal weight and in good health.  If you are overweight or looking to reduce large volumes of fat, it is best to reach your goal weight before having liposuction.

Your liposuction procedure at Berks Plastic Surgery

Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis in our AAAASF accredited surgical suite. For your safety and comfort, you will receive general or sedation anesthesia with a qualified anesthesia provider. Your surgeon will make a tiny incision in the area to be treated, inserting a wand that melts the fat, and following up with a second wand that loosens and suctions the fat.

When the desired results have been achieved, the incision will be closed and dressed, and you will be shown to a private room as you recover from anesthesia. You will be able to return home the same day with a designated driver, though you may want a little extra help around the house for the first day or so.

Before your liposuction procedure, you must stay away from products that contain epinephrine-like drugs, including cold medications. Dr. Reedy will provide you with complete pre-operative instructions at your personal consultation.

After your surgery

Although liposuction is a surgical procedure and involves a level of invasiveness, most of our patients report very little discomfort after surgery. Any pain can be easily managed with prescription medication, though many switch to over-the-counter alternatives within just a few days.

It is normal to experience swelling, bruising, and tenderness around the incisions and treated areas, though these symptoms should resolve within the first week or two.  Compression garments or taping are advised for about four to six weeks, to reduce swelling. It’s important to not strain your healing incisions, so avoid strenuous activity like exercising or stretching for the first few weeks.
