Treat Excessive Sweating with PrecisionTx™

Tired of always sweating the small stuff? For most, sweating is just a small, though sometimes annoying, fact of life. But for those who sweat excessively (hyperhidrosis), it can be an uncomfortable and often embarrassing condition.

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis, commonly known as severe underarm sweating, involves overactive sweat and odor glands. Sweat is your body’s temperature regulator. In severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis, sweating significantly exceeds the body’s normal requirements for cooling.

For those with this condition, it’s a daily struggle to cope with sweating—and most methods are temporary fixes:

  • Change clothes frequently
  • Put absorbent materials under clothing
  • Avoid certain fabrics and styles of clothes
  • Seek medical attention and treatment

While people with severe underarm sweating may try different over-the-counter or prescription antiperspirants, these products often don’t work well enough for their sweating. Clothes can be a real issue, because the wrong choice can reveal your severe underarm sweating condition rather than hide it. Your wardrobe can be very limited and you may have to purchase new clothing frequently.

When clinical strength antiperspirants don’t work well enough, a more aggressive treatment option such as PrecisionTx™ may be appropriate for you. For more information about severe underarm sweating, visit the International Hyperhidrosis Society Web site at www.SweatHelp.org.

How Severe is Your Hyperhidrosis?

Here are some things to consider when thinking about the severity of your hyperhidrosis.

  • How many times a day do you have to change clothes?
  • Do you carry supplies (change of clothes, antiperspirant, towels, powders, etc) to help you manage the effects of your severe underarm sweating?
  • Have you been treated with any prescription antiperspirants, powders, or deodorants designed to control severe underarm sweating?
  • How many hours per day to you spend dealing with your severe underarm sweating?
  • How often do you think about your severe underarm sweating?

How PrecisionTx Works

The procedure is performed using a very small cannula (a special tube about the size of the tip of a pen) which is inserted under the skin. This cannula has a proprietary SideLaze™ fiber inside of it, the design of which allows the laser energy and heat to be directed upward toward the undersurface of the skin, directly targeting the sweat glands (and hair follicles). The laser then destroys the sweat glands in the treatment area.

Treatment with PrecisionTx™

PrecisionTx is the most advanced approach to dealing with excessive sweating. It is minimally-invasive, only requires one treatment, and offers lasting results. This revolutionary procedure utilizes a unique and focused delivery of laser energy to target and to ablate the function of sweat glands within the axillae (underarms). Your procedure will be performed in the office, and you should experience little-to-no downtime. In fact, most of our Precision Tx patients return to work the next day.

The incision sites will be very small and hidden in the skin folds of the underarms. Therefore, in addition to not being in obvious locations, with proper care, any scar should be barely noticeable. Our physicians will evaluate your skin type and provide information on scar prevention.

On average, the procedure itself takes about one hour, but there is some additional time before and after for preparation, numbing the area, and a brief recovery period afterward. You can expect to be with us for about two hours total on the day of your procedure.

Since this is a minimally invasive surgical procedure, after the treatment there will be some swelling and a little soreness that can last a week. Patients are able to return to normal activities almost immediately.

Advantages of PrecisionTx

Other treatment options for excessive sweating include topical treatments, injections of BOTOX, and invasive surgical options. Many of these options result in recurrence and compensatory sweating (increased sweating). As opposed to traditional surgical methods, PrecisionTx is a minimally-invasive, in-office procedure that requires only a local anesthetic and can be performed in about one hour. Only one treatment is needed and since the sweat glands are destroyed, it is a long-lasting solution.

Who is a Candidate for PrecisionTx?

Anyone with an excessive sweating condition is a candidate for this treatment, however, we recommend a consultation to discuss your specific needs. Contact us today to schedule yours!
