How many treatments will I need?

Most areas require 3-6 treatments. However the number of CoolGlide treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors - hair thickness, the area treated and your hair’s growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. CoolGlide treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following your CoolGlide treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?

Following the treatment, you can return to your normal activities right away, but some redness may occur. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. In addition, your physician may recommend that you use a specially formulated skin care product line or prescribe a skin care regimen especially formulated for your skin type.

What are the possible side effects?

Although patients experience few side effects, the most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to sunburn. These effects typically last for several hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur. Consult with your medical professional for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.

How does the CoolGlide compare with other hair removal methods?

Shaving, waxing and depilatory creams are all temporary methods which must be repeated on a frequent basis. The CoolGlide offers permanent hair reduction for lasting results.

How does the CoolGlide compare with electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive, and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each individual hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to them one at a time. The Cutera CoolGlide systems deliver pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below you skin’s surface where it should be.

Who can be treated with the Cutera CoolGlide?

The Cutera CoolGlide features a unique design and long wavelength that allows treatment of patients of all skin tones. Your physician will advise you if CoolGlide Vein Therapy is right for you.

What types of veins can be treated?

The Cutera CoolGlide can remove unsightly veins from all parts of the body. Small, facial veins (or “telanlectasia”) can be treated quickly without bruising or complication. Spider veins and large blue leg veins can also be treated with excellent results. Knotly varicose veins are not good candidates. What about blood blisters and port wine stains?

Some patients may experience bruising and, in rare instances, blistering may occur. Consult with your medial professional for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?

Patients generally resume most normal activities immediately. However, it is recommended that you avoid vigorous activities such as strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.

When will I see results?

Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months. Over time, it is possible for new veins to appear, but these too can be removed with the Cutera CoolGlide.

If your skin has endured visible sun damage, you may benefit from either laser skin rejuvenation or FotoFacial T treatment.

Using the Pearl T laser, we can repair and renew years of sun damage in significantly less time than other laser therapies. For some patients, we recommend the Cutera ® Laser Genesis procedure for increased collagen stimulation. With FotoFacial, the combined elements of radio frequency and light can help you create a more consistent skin tone.

In some cases, we may combine all three technologies, a procedure we refer to as 3D Skin Rejuvenation. During your initial consultation, one of our qualified professionals will discuss all of these options with you, and together you can determine which is most appropriate.

Rosacea

Rosacea, a skin condition that is typically recognized by its redness and puffiness on several areas of the face, can sometimes lead to more serious symptoms. Fortunately, this oily and acne-prone skin condition can be addressed with more than one method. Most commonly, we recommend the Cutera ® Laser Genesis procedure, which can reduce the size of large pores, produce a more uniform texture, and erase many skin imperfections associated with rosacea.

For some patients, a sensitive skin facial is incorporated into treatment as well. Because it contains an all-natural serum and anti-redness mask, it can be an ideal complement to laser rejuvenation for the treatment of rosacea.

Microdermabrasion

The process of cell renewal (exfoliation) is a natural process but slows with age and the effects of the environment. Even removal of the superficial dead cells thickens the epidermis and increases the production of new skin cells along with the production of collagen and elastin.

Microdermabrasion was developed in Europe many years ago and has been an acceptable skin treatment procedure in the United States for a few years.

Aluminum oxide crystals are projected onto the skin in a safe and uniform manner to painlessly exfoliate layers of the epidermis. These crystals, along with dead skin cells, are vacuumed into a closed filter container and discarded. A control gauge allows for increased vacuum for a more aggressive peel and decrease vacuum for a more gentle peel.

Microdermabrasion leaves your skin smooth and clean with mild erythema (redness). Blackheads are loosened, whiteheads become unsurfaced, hyperpigmentation lightens, acne scars lighten, and enlarged pores and fine wrinkles become less prominent.

Blood, containing oxygen and nutrients, is drawn to the surface to feed and repair cells. The process of microdermabrasion should be approached in a series of at least six peels in order to get a lasting effect. The patient will be treated every week or every two weeks depending of the aggressiveness of the peel. A proper skin care program with microdermabrasion is imperative for long lasting improvement in the skin.

Corrective Facials

Deep Hydrating Facial - This treatment will improve the driest of complexions to restore a feeling of suppleness, hydration, and comfort. Encourages the skin to be more resistant to the harsh environment.

Oily or Acne Prone Skin Treatment - This treatment includes an-exfoliation that will help to eliminate impurities and restore balance, leaving even the most congested of skin feeling fresh and clean. We finish with a clay and salicylic acid mask that helps to calm redness from acne and control oil production.

Vitamin C Facial - Exfoliate, hydrate, and nourish your skin! This three stage treatment begins with a thorough cleansing followed by an exfoliation with enzymes, vitamin C serum and a mask with a powerful “antioxidant cocktail.” Overall appearance of the skin will appear rejuvenated.

Sensitive Skin Treatment - This facial is recommended for irritated skin, sunburned skin, rosacea, post-laser resurfacing, or post chemical peel. A very gentle exfoliation followed by a serum containing licorice extract, Pro-vitamin B-5 and calendula to calm and normalize stressed skin. A cool, soothing mask is used to take down redness and hydrate the skin.

Salicylic Acid Peel - A chemical peel that improves early to moderate photo-aging, acne, fine lines, and rough, dry skin. The results leave the skin smooth, soft, and clear. This peel takes a few days to completely peel away all the topical layers of the skin. During this time the skin may be cleansed and moisturized to alleviate the feeling of dryness.

Glycolic Treatment - An exfoliation using glycolic acid to rejuvenate tired, damaged and dull complexions.
