Reading Fat Transfer

Fat transfer is a simple in-office procedure in which your own fat cells may be used as a filling material to help correct deep facial lines, furrows or creases or to help enhance the lips, chin or cheeks. Aging hands may also be rejuvenated by the addition of fat to create more youthful hands.

Using local anesthetic, some of your own fatty tissue is removed through a small syringe and placed into the treatment area immediately or may be saved for later use. Some swelling and bruising is normal and may be present for three to five days. Ice packs will reduce swelling and makeup may be used to camouflage bruising.

Fat transfer can be permanent, but treatments may need to be repeated from one to three times until satisfactory correction is seen.
